Murrumbidgee General Manager Craig Moffitt said council had allocated funding for the two sites to better prepare the sites for the future. Coleambally will receive a new master plan for future guidelines, as well as some much-needed infrastructure.
The draft plan includes a concrete footpath, park bench, new plinth, as well as a concrete pavement around the ashes wall.
With both projects set to proceed this financial year, council will soon be looking for community consultation.
Darlington Point cemetery has been allocated $18,000 for a cinerarium, while Coleambally will receive $51,000 in funding for a toilet on site.
Mr Moffitt confirmed a draft master plan had been prepared for Coleambally.
“We’ve prepared a draft master plan for the continued development of the cemetery. In the meantime, we’re proceeding with the installation of of a toilet,” he said.
"It’s the full plan of development into the future. The original plan is sketchy at best. Council decided it wanted a clear development plan … We wanted to have a clear understanding of how it will develop over time.”
The plan was recently voted on by council and will come back to council, pending the consideration of east-west orientated plots.
It includes details about the look of the place, the rose garden style. There are plans for growth and improvements, as well as plaques in the wall.
“The draft plan will go out to the community. It’ll be in the coming weeks.”
The master plan for Darlington Point and the draft plan for Coleambally are expected to be available on council’s website and offices in coming weeks.
