Darryl ‘The Big Marn’ Brohman, Balmain Tigers hooker Benny Elias, Eastern Suburbs legend Kevin Hastings and South Sydney’s Rod Maybon are heading this way on Men of League’s Tackling the Drought tour.
The former first grade footballers are trekking to rugby league heartland across NSW with the goal of giving back to the code’s community while introducing rural areas to the foundation.
Brohman and the bus of league identities’ first stop in the MIA tour is a Friday night meet and greet in Griffith on October 5.
They’ll be on hand to catch up with aspiring rugby league stars at a coaching clinic the following morning before they make tracks to a free event in Rankins Springs in the afternoon.
The Conapaira Hotel will be the hottest place in town as the foundation puts on a barbecue lunch, beverages and a player meet and greet with NRL merchandise from 1pm.
The Riverina leg of the warmhearted tour continues on the Sunday when the big bus rolls out of Rankins Springs and into Narrandera for a touch football game.
Preparations for the tour are well under way and the Men of League is ready to support those doing it tough, CEO Stephen Lowndes said.
“Darryl, Ben, Kevin and Rod have all generously offered their time to assist this fantastic cause,” Lowndes said.
“We hope (the tour) will bring a smile to the face of those who have been affected most by the tough season.
“The tour is all about reaching out and connecting with the locals in regional New South Wales, who have bred some of rugby league’s best.
“The interest and well wishes regarding our mission have been tremendous.
“We are hopeful of more current and former first grade players pledging their support for the tour and giving back to the rugby league community.”
The MIA is one of five regional areas that will be visited on the tour.
These activities, as well as additional social gatherings, will aim to provide regional communities a much-needed morale boost to potential wellbeing recipients and introduce them to the support network that is available through the Men of League Foundation and its partners.
It supports the men, women and children of the rugby league community in need of a helping hand.
