The service organised by Murrumbidgee Council began with a welcome to country with both an Australian and Indigenous flag being raised by Darlington Point Public School captains Brock Coe and Mahalia McLean.
The two captains were stalwart in representing their school keeping on their captain’s blazers despite being a blistering temperatures over forty degrees.
Master of ceremonies Peter Van Hees assisted the two to captains to raise the flags, and after several attempts the trio were able to return to their shaded area for the singing of the national anthem and the remainder of the service.
