Blues co-coach Mitch Carroll is adamant his team won't get busy just patting themselves on the back about the 12.7 (79) to 7.9 (51) victory.

He said their second win is a big result for a team that had been threatening to do something if only they could put a consistent performance together.

"That's just huge for us today," Carroll said. "A loss and we could've been down the bottom but a win keeps us in touch with the five and to beat a quality side like Marrar is a confidence booster.

"But I said to the boys, no point hanging our hat on today then coming out next week and getting beaten. It's only the one good win and we've got to try to win again and put together two in a row.

"It is massive for the club but there's no point hanging our hat on it."

The Blues moved to seventh on the ladder, a win outside the five and level on points with next week's opponents, Charles Sturt University.

As well as a four quarter effort, Coleambally had highlighted the need for a strong start against Marrar and they did just that, kicking three goals to one in the first quarter.

The Blues kept their noses in front by three points at half-time before dominating the third quarter - when they got out by four goals - and stayed there.

"It was proof for the boys what they can do if they put a four-quarter effort. We were in front all day which was good... to pull away and not let them get back in it was the most pleasing thing," Carroll said.

"Our pressure and our tackling was right up right from the word go and we didn't let them dictate terms, we just controlled the game a bit more from the start and stopped their run."

The Bombers weren't helped by the loss of Cal Gardner who had a recurrence of the hamstring injury that saw him miss a month of footy earlier in the season. With Zach Walgers going through the middle and Rhys Mooney out (along with Tyler Cunningham and Archie Howard), the Bombers were lacking some options up forward.

At the other end, Coleambally forward Dwayne Weetra enjoyed his first five-goal haul of the year, while Tom Morton was solid across centre-half-back to help set the tone for Coleambally along with midfielder Tom Groves.

Darwin recruit Charlie McAdam's strong season continued with another big game on a wing and helping set them up well going forward.

The Blues were down to one on the bench for most of the game with Chris Hayes (cork) and Cooper Smith (ankle) going down early. They also have Dean Pound (shoulder) and Raven Marika (hamstring) to come back in although neither's a certainty against the Bushpigs next week.

Marrar remain fourth on the ladder, one win behind East Wagga-Kooringal and North Wagga, the only other team to beat them this season.

Jed Jenkins, Adam Whyte and Walgers all continued their good form to lead Marrar's effort.

The Bombers will complete their first half of the season at home to Barellan next week.
