Having been paused from racing since back in early July as we dealt with the spread of COVID-19 in Greater Sydney, a decision was made recently to return to Wenty, naturally adhering to all health restrictions.
In just two weeks, we will have a huge night of racing with the Group 1 Peter Mosman Opal, the Group 1 Vic Peters Classic (the oldest feature race in NSW) and the Group 2 Sydney Cup, all on the October 16 racecard.
Good luck to Coonamble
Like so many other events across the state, the Coonamble Greyhound Club may have missed out on its annual October long weekend carnival due to COVID-19, but the club will still race this weekend with a little less fanfare.
Coonamble will host meetings tomorrow and again on Monday, and while not carrying the stature and prizemoney they would have during the carnival, they are guaranteed to have some truly competitive racing. While last year the club's carnival was cancelled, in 2021, it has been postponed and will now be conducted around the Australia Day public holiday weekend next January.
GAP ambassadors
We are fortunate to have some wonderful ambassadors for our Greyhounds As Pets (GAP) program.

Dogs with jockeys
We regularly see a number of jockeys get involved in owning greyhounds, and a group of hoops look like they may have a handy one in the Darryl Thomas-trained Best On Ground, a winner of both of her first two starts.
Among her owners are Brenton Avdulla, Kerrin McEvoy, Tommy Berry, Nash Rawiller, Winona Costin, Tommy Sherry, Regan Bayliss, Jason Collett, and former jockey and now manager Tye Angland.

Heart says Souths
A long, long time ago in another professional life, I spent some time playing rugby league, firstly at Manly and then, back in 1994 and 1995, I had two great seasons with South Sydney.
While we have quite a few participants who barrack for both Penrith and Souths, and I wish them good luck for Sunday's NRL decider, my heart says I will be cheering the Rabbits on, hoping for them to win just their second premiership in 50 years.
