Timeline of Morrison ministry roles

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has revealed former prime minister Scott Morrison held five additional portfolios during his time in office.

* Mr Morrison was appointed health minister on March 14, 2020 at the start of the COVID pandemic.

* He was appointed finance minister on March 30, 2020.

* Mr Morrison was also made a resources and industry minister on April 15, 2021.

* The former prime minister was appointed finance minister on May 6, 2021.

* On the same day, he was appointed treasurer.

* Following his swearing in as resources minister, Mr Morrison announced he would kill off a controversial gas project off the coast of NSW, which had been approved by then resources minister Keith Pitt.

* The revelations came to light in August 2022 after reports from The Weekend Australian and news.com.au.

* In the wake of the news, former finance minister Mathias Cormann and Mr Pitt said they did not know Mr Morrison had oversight of their portfolios.

* Governor-General David Hurley says the process to swear in Mr Morrison to additional ministries was consistent with the constitution.

* Mr Albanese received advice from his department on Monday afternoon on the extra ministerial appointments.

* The prime minister said on Tuesday the decision by Mr Morrison to appoint himself to the portfolios undermined democracy.

* The solicitor-general is set to hand down advice on the implications of the affair on August 22.
