“It’s always been such a strong community. The school is just like a big family. If one person falls over, it’s a crowd of people who rush to help them back up,” he said.
“People care for each other. It’s staff, students and the wider community as well.”
After 14 years in the top job and 21 years as a teacher, Daniel Tuohey has decided its time to move on.
He will take up the role of Assistant Principal at St Patrick’s Primary School in Griffith at the beginning of the 2018 school year.

He’s been watching the school grow since 1996.
“We’ve expanded into a new office building in 2010. We’ve got a very modern facility and around 60 children currently attending.”
Mr Tuohey also seen a lot of families come through. It’s clear he’s made a lasting impact.
“I see a lot of old students in the street, sometimes have them serve me in their jobs. I’ve played football with some of them, taught with children I’ve taught and taught their kids.”

Craig Smith has worked at St Peter’s since 2004. He describes Mr Tuohey as “nothing short of a great guy”.
“He’s inclusive of the staff and the children. He’s got a great rapport with everyone – including a lot of past students. A lot of past students still refer to him as Mr Tuohey,” he said.
“He’s very approachable. You can talk to him about anything. His door was always open … he’s been a pleasure to work with.”
A farewell for Mr Tuohey will be held at St Peter’s Catholic Church and school grounds on Thursday Decemeber 14 following the school’s presentations night, kicking off at 6pm.
A BBQ is supplied and all past and present students, staff and families are welcome.
