A SILVER Ford Falcon is a key clue to a string of firearm thefts on the Border. Victorian and NSW police forces have formed a joint strike force in a bid to recover the stolen weapons. The investigation is focusing on the theft of 23 guns from Corowa in break-ins last month and in March. The weapons were being stored in safes. Five guns were also stolen from a Baranduda home last month and sold. Police raided a Martin Street unit in Wodonga on October 17 and recovered one gun stolen from Corowa and a weapon taken from the Baranduda home. Investigators hold fears for the guns that are yet to be recovered. Albury Detective Inspector Winston Woodward is keen to speak to anyone with information about the silver 2004 model Falcon, which had stolen Victorian plates YQN 809. The vehicle was abandoned in Botts Road in Yarrawonga on October 3 and could be key to identifying those behind the incidents. “What concerns police most is where there firearms are ending up,” Detective Inspector Woodward said. “No-one was injured as a result of those thefts.  “But the firearms are very much of high concern to police.” He said home-owners could help police by securing their properties.  Criminals often have access to tools inside sheds that can be used to break into gun safes.  “The strike force was established this week,” Detective Inspector Woodward said.  “However detectives have been making a number of ongoing enquiries.  “Albury Local Area Command and Victoria Police take seriously the theft of firearms.”  Call 1800 333 000.
