The season ahead for Coleambally Darlington Point’s league tag girls is focused on rebuilding. After losing a number of senior players at the end of last season, the side has welcomed new blood to its ranks.

While they lose their matches in the opening round of the Paul Kelly Memorial Shield over the weekend, coach Steve Knight was more than impressed with their performance.
“They went really well, comparing it to the fact that they’re only a very new team. They’re just in the first year of a rebuilding program.”
The side played competitively against Yanco and Leeton.
”For a team that’s never played together before, they played brilliantly,” he said.
He couldn’t pick a single standout. He felt they were all too good.
“They’re all pretty good right across the field. I wouldn’t be able to pick anyone out,” he said.

With plenty of fresh faces coming through, he says their enthusiasm is showing through at training.
“It’s a real challenging time, but it’s exciting too. Seeing young girls who have played junior tag come through and play in the senior side,” he said.
For Knight, the season ahead is just as much about building a team dynamic as it is about producing results.
“I know we might have a mixed result, but when it all boils down to it it’s the first year of rebuilding. There’s a different attitude at training,” he said.
“We’ve been getting 13 or 14 at training most nights. Nine times out of ten All together we’d have 17 or 18 registered. It’s already growing and people are keen to get involved.”
